GENERAL MEMBERS:

Every student enrolled at SIU Carbondale is considered a member of the student body based on their enrollment status at the university. Members may participate in regular Senate sessions during public comments but are not allowed to vote. Only recognized Senators in good standing have the right to vote.

USG BRANCH OVERVIEW:

USG is comprised of three branches; the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. Each branch is designed to support and balance the others. No branch shall hold more power than another branch.

EXECUTIVE BRANCH:

The Executive Board is an elected body that is comprised of a President, Executive Vice President, Vice President of Student Affairs, Vice President of Finance, Chief of Staff, Executive Assistant, Directors, and any other executive appointments except the Judicial Board. The President and their board members must have a 2.7 cumulative GPA, be full-time SIU students, and be in good standing with Student Rights & Responsibilities.

LEGISLATIVE BRANCH:

The Legislative Branch of USG is comprised of the Senate. The Senate is the representative body of the Undergraduate Student Government. There are a total of fifty senators representing various departments, colleges, and constituencies across campus. At-large senate positions are open to anyone in the Undergraduate Student Body.

JUDICIAL BRANCH:

The Judicial Board consists of seven justices, as outlined in the USG Constitution. Four of the seven Justices are Senate Committee Chairs, representing the Internal Affairs, External Affairs, Governing Documents, and Umbrella and Constituency Organizations Committees. One Justices is elected from the Funding Board, but is not the Vice-President of Finance. Two Justices are Presidential appointments that meet the same requirements for involvement as Senators, confirmed by a majority vote of the Senate.
